Dear Colleague, I would like to invite you to the first LUCID (Life Underwriters, Claims and Insurance Doctors) conference. We believe that this new venture, a collaboration of the Assurance Medical Society, the Association of Medical Underwriters, Select 74 and the Health Claims Forum, will be a resounding success. Having such an interdisciplinary meeting lasting two and a half days provides us with unique opportunities; life and health underwriters, claims consultants, doctors interested in insurance medicine and others can get together to hear about to discuss and debate new developments of relevance to our work within the life and living benefits insurance industry. The Organising Committee, consisting of representatives from each of the four organisations, has met regularly over the past 18 months to ensure that the topics to be aired would be relevant and the speakers stimulating. We are pleased to have Hampton Medical Conferences as our conference organiser. We are grateful to all our sponsors especially our founding sponsors; 3D Risk Solutions, Medicals Direct, RGA UK Services and Swiss Re. Without their financial help and encouragement LUCID would not have been possible. Stratford-upon-Avon has unique charm which is well worth sampling. In addition we have arranged two social events, a Welcome Reception with buffet on the Sunday evening before the conference begins and a Conference Dinner at Coventry Cathedral on the Tuesday evening. Please register and book your accommodation at the Holiday Inn, our conference hotel, or the alternatives listed in the brochure as early as possible.
